Exploring the Cayman Islands

Discover the best ways to get around

Rent a car

Although small by any big-city standards, Grand Cayman is full of exciting places to visit, from West Bay to North Side, so you will definitely require some transportation should you wish to get the most out of visiting and staying here. If you intend to visit for a relatively short time, say a week or two, your best bet by far is to rent a car from any number of car rental providers. Cayman is home to well-known names, such as Hertz, Avis, and, Budget plus smaller local car hire firms. Shop around for the best deals. Most car rental agencies are located next to the airport terminal for ease of collection and drop-off.

Scooters

If you aim to remain central in the Seven Mile Beach and George Town locations, a scooter is a great way to get around and see the sights as you potter along the roads and soak up some sun. Scooter rentals are also plentiful and easy to find, dotted around popular tourist spots.

Electric Scooters

A new and innovative way to get about town is to rent an electric scooter from Electra Mobility. Just download the App and pick up one of their scooters from several locations around Grand Cayman, and away you go, then drop off at the drop location at your destination. It’s an environmentally friendly and fun way to see the sights and get about.

Cayman’s Taxi Service

Cayman has an excellent taxi service, particularly from the Owen Roberts International Airport and the leading hotels and resorts. However, prices are much higher than comparable big-city taxi fees, so they probably should not be necessarily used as everyday transport unless your budget is limitless. People tend to use taxis primarily for airport pick-ups and drop-offs. Taxi drivers are always a fountain of local knowledge about the islands, so it’s a great way to pick insider tips and tricks. Most island taxis are spacious and can hold plenty of luggage, which is always helpful!

Sail to Dinner

Add to your experience by dining at one of Cayman’s most lovely restaurants, the Upstairs Restaurant at Kaibo. Sail away on a ferry from Camana Bay at 6 pm on a Friday or Saturday, and arrive in style. It returns to Camana Bay at 9 pm on a Friday and 10 pm on a Saturday.

Chauffeur-driven limousine

For the epitome of transportation services, a variety of service providers can glide up to your doorstep in a chauffeur-driven limousine or SUV. There are plenty of VIP chauffeur services on the island, with professional drivers eager to add some luxury to your stay.

Cayman Airways

Exploring Grand Cayman’s Sister islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman couldn’t be easier. Cayman Airways offers daily shuttles to and from the islands at reasonable prices, so the delights of these two lovely islands are just a 45 minute or so flight away for you.
