Overview
South Sound | South West Area, Grand Cayman
Follow South Church Street east out of town and along South Sound Road and you will discover one of Cayman’s best kept secrets, the lush and secluded south west corner of George Town. Located here are beautiful single-family residences which dot the shoreline, which is comprised of dramatic ironshore interspersed with glorious sandy spots. One such find is Smith Barcadere, a delightful and well-maintained beach that is a lovely, shady bathing spot. It is in this special corner of Grand Cayman that you will find Castillo Caribe, one of the finest beachfront estate homes in the world, and with eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, its own spa, sauna, tennis court and cinema, it’s 48,000 square feet of pure luxury.
Recently built outstanding condominium and villa developments have added a new dimension to coastal living in this area, including the contemporary designed ultra-modern Oceana, and the Casa Luna collection of beautiful individual villas. Neighbourhoods such as The Avenue and Webster’s Estates are where you will find well-established homes of distinction, while Cayman Crossing offers more affordable choices while being just across the road from the ocean.
Sports enthusiasts tend to make South Sound home because it’s the centre for sports on island, a place where you will find the Cayman Rugby Club, Cayman Tennis Club and the South Sound Squash Club. A lovely boardwalk lines the coast at one spot and is especially popular with joggers and dog-walkers. There is also a handy dock – the South Sound dock - from which you can launch boats and jet skis for a day of ocean fun.
