Overview
George Town, Grand Cayman
As the capital of the Cayman Islands, George Town is the most populous of the islands’ districts. Here you will find the seat of Government, along with many businesses, shops, bars, cafés, restaurants, salons and many of Grand Cayman’s schools. But move out slightly further from the busy central port area and you will discover some truly special homes and neighbourhoods that benefit from proximity to the centre of business while still maintaining a peaceful charm all of their own.
Magnificent mansions gracefully hug the southern coastline going out east from central George Town, while fantastic condominiums such as L’Ambience are nestled beautifully among its residential neighbourhoods, with amenities such as schools close by. The bus depot is located just by George Town’s Library, a central spot from which to explore the entire island by bus. George Town has huge historic and cultural significance for the islands and is fascinating to explore on foot, with the Cayman Islands National Museum a good starting point.
It is also a shopping heaven, with jewellery, watches, cosmetics and perfumes all sold at duty free prices. As a result, there is an excellent supply of world class stores that have a brilliant range of all the most luxurious brands available, such as Rolex, Cartier, Mikimoto, Chanel, Mac and lots more. It’s also brimming with a wide selection of restaurants. You can sit out on the glorious deck at the Lobster Pot and watch the sun merge into the sea while dining on succulent seafood, or be entertained by the lively bunch at Casanova by the Sea. Indulge in a sweet waffle or coffee from Waffle Monkey or some fantastic cocktails at Sunset House (really and truly the best place in town for sunset viewing.)
